Over the past few weeks we have found out some wonderful and surprising news regarding Baby Goulet.
First as you may already know we are having a baby boy! We are very excited to have a boy for our first child.
We also wanted to let you know that we have recently had multiple prenatal diagnostic tests and they have confirmed that our baby has Down syndrome. Down syndrome is a chromosomal condition that means our baby’s cells have an extra 21st chromosome that causes Down syndrome. We are still learning about Down syndrome ourselves so we probably won’t be able to answer any questions for a while. We are confident with the help from our doctors that we will be prepared to help our baby when he arrives. Although we are concerned, we are still very excited about our baby coming! We wanted you to be able to take the time to adjust to this news, so you won’t feel the need to have an immediate response. We would also like for you to treat him just like any other baby. This is not a sad moment, there is no need to apologize. We are having a baby and this is an exciting time for us. We still have a lot of planning to do and we will need lots of help welcoming this wonderful new baby into our family!
For now I leave you with something I found online and a poem that I wrote.
He will have the innocence and simplicity of childhood that all children have. He will not face the same challenges that we face. He will face different ones. He will not worry about the complications of life. He will simply experience and treasure every moment. He will not be bogged down by the stress of life. He will savor the simple things that give pleasure and joy.
Imperative by Grant Goulet
I have to expect the unexpected.
I have to believe the unbelievable.
I have to accept the unacceptable.
This is Implied.
I want to know the unknowable!
I want to control the uncontrollable!
I want to predict the unpredictable!
This is Impossible!
Do I have to imagine the unimaginable?
Do I have to nerve the unnerving?
Do I have to bear the unbearable?
This is Impending?
I have to do what is Implied.
I want to do the Impossible!
But can I handle the Impending?
This is Imperative!!!
