Happy Belated Three Month Emerson! The days are seriously getting away from me so fast!
Month two was an emotional one! We started the month off with Emerson's first outing, that wasn't to a doctor appointment. ;) Our friend Rob had an open house for his new healing center. We had to be there to celebrate this amazing dream unfolding for our dear friend. It was a short visit but glad we could pop in! I had Emerson in the Moby wrap and he slept the whole time. :)
We had a scary visit to Children's Hospital this month as well. At Emerson's cardiologist appointment, the doctor was concerned about the fluid in his lungs, his breathing, and lack of weight gain. So he was admitted for four days. It wasn't the best experience for us at the hospital, but it did give us a little look into what we may experience for his surgery. Thankfully they were able to find the right medication to release some of the fluid, and Emerson was put back on an NG tube to help him gain weight. Mommy and Daddy learned how to put the NG tube, which was probably the scariest thing ever. Amazing what strength you find as a parent, eh? That first time putting the NG tube by ourselves at home was a little stressful. But Team Goulet pulled it together :)
We definitely saw some growth spurts this month. We had brought preemie clothes when he was at the hospital and the onesies were like belly shirts! LOL The newborn sleepers fit him great length wise, and plenty of room to keep fattening him up. And he even fits newborn socks now! He has these adorable socks that look like converse shoes.
Emerson has gotten stronger with tummy time to. He has always tried to be Mr. Strong Man lifting his head. But he his doing so great lifting and moving it up or side to side during tummy time. His strength is incredible.
He also was approved for the Synagis shot this month! That makes us VERY happy. This is a monthly shot he will receive during RSV season, aka cold season to us adults. The synagis shot helps prevent seriously lung disease caused by RSV, respiratory syncytial virus. With his heart defect, Emerson is high risk for RSV. RSV can develop bronchiolitis - inflammation in the lungs, wheezing, and difficulty breathing - and also croup, ear infections and pneumonia. So we hope we do not have to meet RSV!
I think my favorite moment of the month was hearing his first cooing. He is getting more vocal these days. And we were all just cuddling on the couch and he was cooing away. My heart was so overfilled with joy and love. I love our little family!
So how was Emerson's second month?
Weight: 6lbs, 12oz
Height: 19.5 inches
Hair Color: Strawberry Blonde
Eye Color: Hazel
Clothing size: Bye Bye Preemie Sizes! Emerson has grown a little belly and popped right out of those preemie onesies :) His newborn clothes fit perfect now. Funny how in the early months we hated button up sleepers, so much work! And now we hate the zippers since he hates have any part of his body cold. But those sleepers that zip down from the top - GENIUS!
Diaper size: Emerson has graduated into newborn diapers to! Those cute little butt cheeks have come in and he is in big boy diapers now :)
Feeding: Emerson's feedings slowed down a lot this month. He was taking twice the amount of time for the same volume as last month. His lungs started to fill with fluid from his heart defect to, which was one of the reasons he struggled with his feedings. At one of his cardiologist appointment, they were concerned and admitted him to the hospital. He was monitored him while they found the right combination of medications for the fluid, and also put him back on an NG tube for his feedings. The NG tube has definitely helped him gain weight. He is taken 65ml, 7 times a day through his tube and gaining about an ounce a day.
Sleep: We started off the month good with the 3-4 hour sleep shifts, but after the visit to the hospital we had a little bit of a relapse. For 7-10 days, Emerson was on 1-2 hour sleep shifts. One night Grant let me catch up on some sleep, and I woke up to find Emerson sleeping in his boppy with daddy on the couch, daddys are securing baby boy. Melted my heart! Grant and I both were happy that the lack of sleep was short lived, a week later he slept through the entire night! I woke up and thought something was wrong! LOL He was snuggled in his crib, peacefully sleeping. Since than we have 6-8 hour sleep shifts. HOORAY! And he still loves to be swaddled when sleeping. Snug as a bug!
Milestones:
*First Outing (That wasnt the doctors!)
*Sleeping Through The Night
*First Baby Cooing
Loves: Grasping things - rattles, strings, hair, shirts. His three doggies. Really starting to notice them and touch their fur. Bathtime. Always the swing, never the bouncer ;)
Dislikes: Still Being Naked. Laying down - reflux issues. :( NG Tube. Actually all three of us dislike it! :( Mommy going back to work! Okay maybe thats more mommy, but hes in great hands with Nanny Julie during the week. :)
Adventures: First Outing - went for a quick visit to Uncle Robbie's Open House. A visit to Children's Hospital where he was admitted for 4 days. :(
Mommy and Daddy could not get through the month without: Dr. Earles! Emerson's pediatrician has been amazing. Wealth of information, help network to other families with children with Down Syndrome, so supportive in mommy's mini meltdowns, and Emerson's number one cheerleader. So lucky we found her!
