How is it already the holidays? They have really snuck up on us this year!
Emerson's first holidays are not being celebrated like the typical holidays. But nothing these last few months have been very typical for us. And that is okay :) Because in the wise words of Theodore Roosevelt and a great reminder from a good friend of mine, Comparison is the thief of joy. So as we let go of the typical, we embrace the joy of new. ;)
Right now we are really focused on keeping Emerson as healthy as we can. Especially after that last hospital visit. So sadly that means that we are spending the holidays at home, rather than with our families. While it certainly bums us out, we are embracing the journey we are on now. Living in a bubble certainly has its down moments, but at least we are all in the same bubble! Together as a family we can make new traditions and celebrate olds traditions wherever physically we may be :)
With the doctors appointments and returning back to work this week, we didnt really have time to go shopping for the typical Thanksgiving feast. And after the last few weeks we have had, Grant and I didnt have the energy to cook it either. Who am I kidding, I mean Grant didnt have the energy to cook :p So we decided on new traditional Thanksgiving meal. One that was special to us. Grant makes these delicious mini-meatloafs. So we had meatloafs with this delicious sauce, redskin potatoes, green beans, and mac n cheese. It was delicious, so delicious I forgot about not having turkey and stuffing :) And we topped that off with some pumpkin and apple pie. YUM! YUM!
We spent the day mostly in our PJ's. We loved waking up to the snowfall! Our new house has big windows to enjoy those beautiful snowflakes while staying warm and toasty. We continued the tradition of watching the Thanksgiving parades while enjoying Starbucks. I love parades, and I couldnt help but giddy thinking about what it will be like to see parades through Emerson's eyes in another year or two. Something we definitely look forward to! The big dogs got some extra special love by going on a long winter wonderland walk with daddy, while Rusty snuggled with Emerson and I on the couch as we watched some Thanksgiving specials on TV. Love, R&R, food, and even threw in a tiny dance party. Sounds like Thanksgiving success to me :)
We have so much to be thankful this year. But in this moment Im most thankful that all six of us were able to spend the day together. All in the same place at the same time. All healthy. All as a family.
Hope all of you had a very Happy Thanksgiving as well!
