Happy 3 weeks Emerson!! :)
It's amazing to think how far he has come in three weeks! Such a strong little man we have.
Grant ran errands and worked on a honey to do list while I went to the hospital. Thank you honey! I know going out to our hold house in Warren is his least favorite thing to do! And the furbabies got some TLC, daddy took them for a visit to the Lake Orion dog park. Since they are all passed out right now, Id say they had a great time :)
I got to the hospital just in time for Emerson's 2pm feeding. He is still going strong on bottle feeds, and hasn't had to have the feeding tube put back in. Keep it up baby boy. We snuggled after his feeding until my next pumping session. Pumping every two hours is quite the job! LOL Sadly, I didn't really receive any milk while pumping at the hospital today. :-/
I helped Christie, the daytime nurse, with Emerson's 5pm vitals. I took his temperature and changed his very poopy diaper! YAY he pooped! Its been almost two days since he had a good size poop. And it was pretty explosive. That would have explained why he was wide awake - had room for his next feeding now! LOL I also learned that with preemie's a low temperature is just as important as high when Emerson might be under the weather. Thank you Christie :)
With Emerson wide awke, Christie suggested trying to put Emerson to my breast with the supplemental nursing system. We got the nipple shield on, but than had a little bit of trouble keeping the tube in his mouth. But he latched on pretty quickly and was suckling away. Joi came and assisted with putting the tube inside the nipple shield, rather than outside. When we pulled Emerson away from my nipple, Joi said - look at your milk! For a minute I thought it was from the tube, but it was inside the nipple shield. It was MY milk. HOORAY!!! :) Loved how excited Joi and Christie were with me :)
I have been really getting down on myself the last few days. I know Emerson is doing amazing. But my emotions are still all over the place. I have really been stressing out over this whole lack of milk production. All I keep thinking is that I couldn't provide for Emerson in the womb, and now I can't provide for him out. So to see a little bit of milk from Emerson nursing was seriously the best thing ever for me tonight!
One of the social workers, Sara, came to see me today to. We talked a bit about the milk production, or lack of. She gave some helpful advice, and just reassured me that she is there is I need to talk. I appreciated that!
Got a little off track there....back to the feeding. Joi got the tube for the supplemental nursing system inside the nipple shield and Emerson took about 15cc before he was tired out. He did so good! Suckling strong, taking breathing breaks, and repeat. Its amazing to watch him. My miracle boy beating all odds. I really savor each moment, good or bad. All of it is our amazing journey! Joi and Christie also said that I was looking more relaxed as well as Emerson. That is nice to hear, because I feel pretty awkward most of the time! LOL Once we saw how tired Emerson was getting we gave the remaining formula to him through a bottle. He did finish the bottle but wasn't sucking/swallowing as strong as he usually does. Christie said that is a sign that he's pretty tired. We cuddled up after his feeding for the next hour <3
Since the 5pm feeding went a little bit longer than expected, we didn't try for his 8pm feeding till a little later. He was awake but not wide awake, and a little crabby that I woke him from his nice deep sleep. I know the feeling baby boy. Ha! We got through the feeding pretty fast, and than back to cuddling. He was sound asleep in minutes :)
It was a great day with Emerson! And loved the nurses keeping me company today. Lots of great conversations while cuddling with my little man. Have to say I felt a lot better leaving today than I did when arriving :)
