We got to the hospital a little later than usual today - we had to make a pit stop at Babies-R-Us...have a feeling we will be making lots of pit stops there now! Thankfully its right down the street :) We picked up some sleepers and hope to bring those with some blankets in for Emerson tomorrow. A little piece of home!

Emerson was sound asleep when we got there. I was hoping to squeeze in some Kangaroo Care, so gently tried to wake baby boy up. Phew! How did that dirty diaper not wake him up already?! LOL Got baby boy changed, and of course he peed in the middle of the process. This seems to be quite the pattern with Emerson. Boys will be boys, right? :) He seemed a little fussy (the Im trying to poop face!) so decided I would try Kangaroo Care later. Figured we would get all settled in and than he would drop a bomb on me. Ha!

Emerson seemed to be pretty wide awake after that. We had about 45 minutes till his next feeding, so Grant got some daddy and Emerson time :) Love seeing Emerson so awake. Grant got a cute video of him to.

One of the lactation consultants, Julia, came to visit just before I was going to pump for the 5pm feeding. We went over some supplemental options (tea, prescriptions, hydration, nutrition, etc.) to help me produce breast milk, and than she sat with me while I pumped. She corrected a few things I was doing incorrectly, and gave me some other helpful suggestions. Wouldn't you know that I pumped 20cc! That is the most I have ever pumped. They call Julia, the breast milk whisper...now I know why! She also suggested that I rent a hospital grade pump. It will help build up my supply for when Emerson comes home and when I go back to work. So hoping with all these tools, my milk production will increase!

While Julia was there she also asked if Id like to see if Emerson could latch on to my breast. So we tried that. To our surprise, he could! The cardiologist and other lactation consultants said that with his Down Syndrome diagonsis and heart defect that he probably wont be able to latch on till after his surgery. He was only latching on for a few seconds, but I was just happy to see him latch at all! Even after he would pull away he would try to latch on a few moments later, so was definitely showing interest. Julia put a glove on and put her thumb in Emerson's mouth. This was to imitate a larger nipple than a bottle. Than she had my milk in a syringe, and put the tip of the syringe in Emerson's mouth with her thumb, and he sucked the milk. She said that he has a great suck! And when she took out her thumb, he actually put his thumb in his mouth and sucked! That was a first!Watching his strength each day is amazing! Emerson and I did some skin to skin as I bottle fed him the remaining formula. Even after all that activity he took the remaining formula in the bottle. You go Emerson!

Aunt Terri came up for a visit today. Emerson was asleep for most of her visit - a lot going on at that 5pm feeding! But she got a few baby dream squeaks out of him :) Its nice that he is in a crib now, so visitors can see his cute little face a little better! :)

Tonight was bath time for Emerson, and it was my turn for a first tub bath. I have to admit I was a little nervous! My hands are so small so I wasn't sure how good I could support his head with slippery hands! But it went well. He was crying at first, but I think that was from his poopy diapers! Grant changed his diaper and than he pooped again (on the blanket) before we could get him into the tub! LOL But once we got in the tub the crying subsided (along with the poop!) and he was so content. He seems to really love the bath. :) He kept bouncing his legs, it was so cute. I think we might have a swimmer on our hands. Like father like son :)

After his bath, Emerson took his full bottle feeding. :) We got to snuggle for a little bit before we tucked him back into his crib for the night. Michelle started to go over some baby care with us. When to call the pediatrician, what to do in different scenarios, feedings, car seat, etc. It was so much information! But she said that they will go over all of it again a few times before we leave. Thats good to know. Let it sink in, have time to ask questions, and hopefully review
again!

Busy and great day in the nursery today :)
