This morning I started driving again! YAY! Amazing how something so small can make me feel a little bit more of normalcy. I didn't want to push it to much, so I ran a few errands before we headed to the hospital. So far so good!
Today was a pretty chilled out day for Emerson. He slept most of our visit today. Sleeping is good - thats when he is growing :) After taking 6 full bottle feeds, Im sure he was a little more worn out than usual! Yes, you read that right 6 full bottle feeds back to back!!! There is no stopping this kid :)
My sister, Kelly, came to visit today. Emerson may have opened his eyes with a few grunts for her, but she got to see him wide awake at his 5pm feeding :)
He did bottle all but 7 cc at his 5pm feeding. And at 8pm took his entire feeding, which was broken up into 3 bottles. First my breast milk, than formula mixed with his vitamins, than the remaining formula. Proud of him for finishing all three bottles with that many breaks!
Michelle was the night nurse tonight. So we redid his rocket ship footprints. Michelle also brought in fabric paint so we could put his foot prints on a white onesie for memorabilia. Emerson was okay when we put the paint on his feet, but it was cleaning the paint off that he still hated, poor guy was crying till his face was beat red!
It did look like Emerson was developing a rash on his forehead and side of his face. Michelle and Nicole were going to have the nurse practitioner on call order some cream for that. Maybe this was the baby acne everyone talks about??
His tear duct seems to still be draining to. It keeps alternating from the right to left eye. Will have to ask the nurses when we should be concerned about this.
We had a visit from the neonatologist on call, and he just stopped by to say hi. He said Emerson is doing awesome, and didn't have any news for us. No news is good news right? He wanted to check in to see if we had any questions to.They (doctors and nurses) have been so great relaying information to us that we really haven't had any questions lately. Most of the time they are giving us answers to questions we didn't even know we had yet! Love that about all of them! Phil, one of the medical students that assisted with my c-section stopped by to see how things were to. Such a compassionate medical team we have :)
One of the hospital's lactation consultants came to visit me today. We went over my pumping schedule, how much milk Im getting, etc. She gave me a few suggestions, and went over how to use the pump the most effective way. Definitely learned a few things, so hoping that Ill see some improvement in the upcoming days. If not, I think I will have them come back and sit with me while I pump to see what I might be doing wrong. I have to admit, Im getting a little discouraged with the pumping. But my emotions are all over the place, and my stress levels are high...and I know that all factors in. :(
On a happier note, we ended the day with a 2 ounce gain!! YAY! 3lbs 9oz, getting close to almost a pound gained :)
Keep growing baby boy!!!

Melissa is grateful for: the fighter that Emerson is! 6 nipple feeds in a row. He is a rockstar!
