Today Grant stayed back at the house during the day to catch up on some of our long to do list!
Big THANK YOU to Uncle Doug for coming over to help him, and Aunt Cyndi for driving me up to the hospital.
I was so happy to hear that Emerson handled being in a crib so well last night! His temperature was normal all night, and the daytime nurse, Kelly, took off his hat today to test it one step further. And with his hat off, temperature is still normal. Way to go little buddy!
Tammy, the night nurse from last night, left us a little note on the dry erase board - Emerson nipple fed his 11pm and 2am feedings!!! This little boy is a champ! Bottle feedings back to back, maintaining normal temperature in a crib - so proud of him!
He did seem a little fussy most of the day. He was grunting, swinging his arms and legs, and sometimes even crying :( Kelly did say he had not pooped since the night before. We checked his diaper in between feedings, and nothing. So Kelly showed me how to stimulate his butt a little bit to help him out. Was hoping it worked soon because hated to see him so uncomfortable! I could relate - having a bowel movement after a c-section was probably the worse part of it all! HA!
We attempted a bottle feeding at 5pm. He started off great, but he sounded like he might be choking so I kept sitting him up. Kelly reassured me that he is trying to poop! And a few grunts later and I heard and felt a bomb. YAY - he pooped! LOL After that he took the rest of the feeding with no problem. We even finished in 30 minutes with our little 5 minute break to let him poop. :)
We got a little cuddle time in before I put Emerson back in his isolette to rest. But it was short lived because he needed his diaper changed. As I was changing his diaper I realized that his blanket was wet, he had peed on it. So I managed to hold him in one hand, and swamp out blankets with the other. Each day I'm getting more and more comfortable with his very, tiny self! :)
Daddy was coming up for the 8pm feeding, and the night nurse, Michelle, asked if we would like to do his foot prints tonight. I was excited about that! Michelle does these cute little designs around the baby's footprints. Its adorable.
We did his foot prints first, and than Daddy was going to give Emerson his bath. First we did the standard black footprints. Emerson hated every part of it, from putting the ink on, to stamping his foot, to wiping his foot off. He cried so much his face turned beat red, and heart rate was over 200! :( Made me sad! Michelle worked as quickly as possible and than she helped sit him up and calm him down. I was hoping the fun footprints with finger paints wouldn't be so traumatic for him! The texture of the finger paints was much smoother and Michelle put them on his foot with a q-tip. He seemed to not mind this as much. Grant helped Michelle imprint his foot on a piece of colored paper. We picked out two designs - a rocket ship and bumble bee. So there was two different color paints to put on Emerson's feet. He was pretty good through both, it was wiping off his feet where he started to cry again. Definitely is a little temperamental about his feet! I'm the same way about my feet. LOL
After we got through with the footprints, Michelle got the tub ready to bathe Emerson. His umbilical cord stump fell off so we could do a full bath. :) Grant washed Emerson's hair first. Swaddled him all up and had a football hold while he gently massaged his head with water and soap. Emerson loved his daddy's tender touch and didn't cry once! He looked like he was really enjoying himself! After his hair was washed, Michelle helped Grant with the bath, coaching him on how to hold him and bathe him in the tub. He looked so cute in that tub! Actually his long legs made him a little big for the tub! Who would of thought as a preemie! Watching my two guys in this very precious moment was priceless! The nurses do such an incredible job making us feel at home as we experience these first moments. I have so much gratitude towards them. I took a million pictures, of course I did right? So make sure you check out the gallery link above :) Don't worry, Michelle brought out some rubber duckies to hide Emerson's goods - although we did take a butt shot that is just to adorable! LOL
After we got done with a bath and got Emerson in some warm jammies, Michelle had some suggestions for photo ops. :) Love Michelle! We put a sheet over the boppy, and posed Emerson by himself than with the rubber duckies. Unfortunately, he was a little tired (probably from all that activity), so we didn't get to many photos with his eyes open! LOL
We still had a feeding to do, so were going to attempt a bottle feeding. It took us the whole 30 minutes, but we got all but 2cc's! YAY Emerson!!! So proud of him with all that activity and still taking an almost full feeding. I know he had to have a good nights sleep after all that!
Grant and I treated ourselves to dinner when we left the hospital. Our friend, Jeff, just opened up his own restaurant near the hospital. C.A.Y.A Smokehouse Grill in Walled Lake. The restaurant looked great, and the food was delicious! Was nice to go out, have a good meal, and enjoy each other's company at somewhere other than the hospital. :)
Happy two weeks Emerson! Two weeks closer to bringing you H.....I dare not say the H word! ;)
